We are Todd and Kaylen Lehner of Grant, Nebraska. Our dogs are a very important and large part of our lives. We
have discovered that this wonderful breed is the ultimate combination of
a companion, a house dog, a family dog, and a pointing dog all wrapped
into one. Gun dogging has become a passion that consumes most of our time, which we welcome. If we are not training, hunting, or trialing the dogs, then we are researching training techniques, improving our kennel facilities, or speaking with other breeders/trainers or clients about dogs. This has become our main focus and we aim to please our clients with what we do.
We are currently proud members of the National Shoot to Retrieve Association (NSTRA) Big Sky Region, the Club de l' Epagneul Breton of the United States, and the Big Sky Epagneul Breton Gun Dog Club.
Our Philosophies
Breeding
Our breeding program will be thoughtfully carried out. We will only
breed healthy, well-mannered, skilled hunting Bretons that will likely
produce even better puppies. We will only engage in proper, ethical
breeding practices in an effort to follow the breed standard and better
the breed as a whole. All the while, we will adhere to the breeder
requirements of the AKC and UKC. Our breeding program is small, which
represents our selectivity of pairings.
Training
It is our feeling that a dog has more to teach a handler
than the other way around. Training is an on-going process that is made
up of building blocks. We will continually add to our array of
training techniques, and aim to master all facets of training gun dogs.
We will gladly take on a training project with any pointing breed. We
will set up training objectives, and guarantee their completion as a
condition of the training agreement.
Selling
Having a good gun dog is one of life's most rewarding
experiences. We would like to help other deserving people get the
opportunity to see what a joy a French Brittany can bring to their
family. However, it must be understood that it is a lot of
responisbility to take on. Bretons should be loved like a family
member, but yet know the discipline that it takes to be a pack member.
We will do our best to insure that our dogs and puppies will be entering
a deserving home that will treat them properly.
Hunting
Hunting is the primary use of a Breton. Our training and
breeding will focus on producing dogs that have unsurpassed field
ability. Bretons should see countless days in the field, as it is their
purpose on this earth to hunt birds. We will encourage all clients to
hunt their dogs as often as possible.
Field Trialing
Trialing is a fun game to play in the off-season. We do it
for the fun and comradery of it. It is a great way to display a dog's
ability amongst friends. We do not, however, allow trialing techniques
to supercede proper hunting skills.
